Police Officer Selection Test Study Guide

If you want to become a police officer without having to take the entrance examination over and over again before passing it, then I suggest you invest in a Police Officer Selection Test Study Guide. A police exam study guide is extremely valuable if you want to be well prepared for the entrance test.

You do have the option of taking the exam without a study guide, but over 30% of all prospects fail the test their first time through. So, why not assure yourself a passing score by getting a comprehensive police exam self study guide?

The question seems to be not if a police officer exam guide can help a person prepare for the test, but where someone get a good one.

Good question.

There are some police exam self study guides out there that are outdated. Here’s a rule of thumb to follow. Any police officer selection guide that was published before 2002 isn’t any good nowadays. Below I’ve listed where and how to find a reputable guide for the police officer test.

Recruiter

There are several ways to get a police officer exam guide. One quick and easy way to get one is to simply ask your recruiter. If they don’t have one, I’m sure they can guide you to the right place.

Bookstore

Another option in terms of getting a law enforcement exam study guide is to get one through your local bookstore. Bookstores are always stocked with police exam preparation guides. If they are out, normally they can order one for you.

Local Library

The library is another option, but the thing with libraries is sometimes they have hand me down books, meaning the books aren’t always up to date. Remember what I said if the book is published before 2002 it probably won’t help you.

Internet

If you cannot get a police exam preparation guide from your recruiter, than the next best thing is to get one over the Internet. The great thing about the Internet is that you can review testimonial from people who have already read the book, and then you can make a sound decision on rather you want to move forward with the purchase of the book or not.

I hope this article was able to shine some light on how to go about getting a  Police Officer Selection Test Study Guide.

National Police Officer Selection Test (POST or NPOST)

National Police Selection Test (POST or NPOST)

The National Police Selection Test has become the go-to exam for many police departments nationwide. Meaning if you want to become a police officer, you must pass the N.P.O.S.T entry test. In fact, several states especially Iowa, Utah, and Wyoming have mandated the NPOST as their statewide entry-level test.

What Is The N.P.O.S.T?

Per Stanard & Associates, the folks who created the NPOST, the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST) is an entry-level basic skills test that helps law enforcement agencies select the most qualified applicants by ensuring that candidates possess the basic cognitive skills necessary to successfully perform the job. The POST is a valid, job-related test designed specifically for law enforcement use, which measures these basic skills: Arithmetic, Reading Comprehension, Grammar and Incident Report Writing.

Here’s How To Study For The National Police Officer Selection Test:

First and foremost, you must understand the test is multiple choice with eight major sections. Here’s three below….

1. Reading Comprehension Section – You will have to demonstrate that you are able to read, and retain information from varies sources like a witness statements, court paperwork, and/or police reports. This section shouldn’t be particular hard to those that are good readers.

2. Vocabulary Section –  When you become a police officer you will realize the range of your vocabulary is very important. You’ll encounter many different people while on patrol from the occasional high school dropout to the doctored degree professor.  There’s between 500-1000 common words in police work that you should know the meaning too, and be able to use efficiently in a sentence.

3. Memory Recall Section– This section has to do with your ability to see an object, person, place, or thing and be able to effectively recall those things. For instance, you’ll be given a sketch or a photo of a crime in progress and after a couple minutes you’ll be asked to correctly answer some basic questions about the sketch or photo.

There are five more components of the exam that is used to evaluate your abilities as it relates to police work. They are…

  • Directional Map Reading
  • Report Writing Techniques
  • Spelling and Grammar
  • Basic Mathematics

In conclusion, the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST) can be tough if you aren’t prepared for it. However, there have been recruits who have posted very high scores on the examination using varies police exam study guides available to first time test takers. In my experience the more you study and prepare for the test, the better you will do.

Standard and Associates Police Exam Study Guide (NPOST)

The police officer exam (POST) is always administered by an outside agency. The great majority of departments across the country contract out the written exam to a testing and assessment agency to avoid lawsuits. In the past, departments were being accused of only passing those applicants who had known relatives on the department.  Today, that’s not the case since all exams are graded by an independent agency.

The good thing about this is you can easily get a study guide from that company who will be administering the test. Unfortunately, not too many recruits even know you can get an actual study guide from the company who created the test questions. The most popular company of choice is Standard and Associates who administered their exam.

Who is Standard and Associates?

Standard and Associates is the company behind the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST) given to police applicants across the country. The NPOST test, which is graded and administered by Standard and Associates, offers public safety agencies a legally defensible and  nationally validated examination designed to identify candidates who possess the skills necessary to function successfully as an entry level police officer.

How can I get a Standard and Associates exam study guide?

Here are the eight major test categories you should expect to see on a Standard & Associates issued police assessment test:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Math
  • Report Writing
  • Vocabulary
  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Memory Recognition
  • Directional Orientation

You can get a Standards and Associates Police Exam Study Guide that closely mirrors the eight test categories above from your recruiter or by clicking the link here.

Riverside County Sheriff Exam – Police Exam Study Guide

Are you looking for a police exam study guide to help you prepare for the Riverside County entrance exam? If so, please keep reading.

Whether you want to be a city police officer or a deputy sheriff  for the county of Riverside, there is one task you must accomplish before either can happen; you must pass the entrance exam. The police officer exam and/or the deputy sheriff written test is designed to locate qualified applicants and eliminate those that aren’t as qualified.

In my opinion, it is a good entry level assessment test that filters out around 30%-50% of prospective candidates who wouldn’t make good cops. The test is a good way to measure a potential recruit’s judgment and reasoning capabilities. If they are lacking in that area, they will struggle mightily on the Riverside county written exam.

I must now appeal to those who fail the exam.  Many of those candidates who fail the test would have otherwise make good police officers, but because they did not  study for the exam, they failed. Some recruits are book smart and will sail through the test without any problems, while others who aren’t as fortunate will fail. I was one of those who had to study for the police test because academics did not come easy to me. That’s why I’m a big fan of a police exam study guide. It will help you immensely and save you from retaking the test.

Here are the benefits of a police exam study guide:PD exam study guide

  • Access to Practice Police Exams – It is time to stop guessing and find out what questions are on the exam.
  • Exact topics on the exam and Their Purpose – Getting the right answer is easier when you know what they want to hear
  • How to Answer Trap Questions – Every exam will throw in questions to destroy momentum and disqualify you. Learn how to identify them and answer them.
  • In Depth Analysis of the Toughest Questions – Instead of just getting an answer key, you’re going to get a full analysis.
  • And Much, Much, More

The Riverside Sheriff Department won’t allow you to move forward in the selection process until you pass the written exam. If you fail the test, you will have to wait 6-12 months until you can retake it. Don’t get discouraged if you fail the test your first time because I know of some police officers (not from riverside county) that had to retake the test several times before they got a qualifying score.

The Riverside Sheriff Department is a great agency to work for. Don’t show up on your test date ill-prepared. If you do, you will miss out on a golden opportunity.  I hope this article has helped in some way. Thanks!

POST Exam Study Guide – Buy a State By State Police Examination Book

POST Exam Study Guide – Buy a State By State Police Examination Book

If you aren’t looking for a POST exam study guide that will help you prepare for the police officer entrance examination in your state, then you’ve landed on the wrong website. For several years, the POST entrance exam has been a major roadblock for many applicants who are vying to become police officers in their respective communities.

Some candidates who fail the test will be so overcome by disappointment they will discontinue their pursuit of becoming a cop forever. Some of these recruits would have otherwise been good officers if they had simply stayed the course. Little did they know that many current cops have failed the test on their first attempt as well. In fact, some had to retake the POST exam 3-4 times before getting a satisfactory score.

Some candidates have done well on the test, while others have failed with disappointing scores. I don’t know the exact failure rate among first time test takers, but I’ve heard it’s well over 30% in some states; that number may or may not be accurate. Regardless of the number, there really shouldn’t be any reason why a potential recruit can’t pass the test.

Why do I say that?

With so many police officer self study courses available online, I’m shocked more candidates don’t pass the test. The only reason I can attribute this to is many applicants don’t know an online POST exam study guide is available.

So whether you are taking the test for the first time or you’re retaking it after having failed it the first time around, simply click on your state below to download your POST exam study guide right now!
