Dennis, I'm not sure how things are in your City/County/State, but here's how it is here: You go through the hiring process at the Sheriff's Office, and if you want to know what that's like, stay on this website! Here, our S.W.A.T team is called a Tactical Response Team, or the Tac Team. To be considered for the Tac Team you must have enough experience to be considered for Dectective/Investigator. Which I think is at least two years. Most of the time, The Tact Team will drive a Dodge Durango. The Officers that Drive the Un-Marked Dodge Chargers (Most people call them undercover cop cars) are Investigators. The Officers that Drive the Marked Dodge Chargers (Patrol Cars that actually say POLICE or SHERIFF in big letters on the side) are usually a Sgt. or higher. The Department will most of the time give the 'fancier' patrol cars to the Officers with the most experience.

I was just wondering if someone can help me out with this question i have! I am almost done with my BD in CRMJ and i am 23 years old My GPA is 3.75 (which i think wont matter much in the hiring process) but couple of years ago i shoplifted from a store couple of times and never got arrested or anything. I wish i could go back in time and stop myself but i can not. Now am afraid that i wont get a job in Law enforcement and will be labeled as a thief. I have a clean background and never did anything else. So will this automatically disqualify me from becoming a police officer? PLEASE help me by answering

I am in the Navy and have been for about 8 years now. before I joined I used Meth and marijuana but used the Navy to get clean and make a better life. I was honest about this to them and still got a job with a security clearance. I currently work and have been working in the counter narcotics field for almost 6 years. I have applied to some departments and am scared that even if I am honest on the poly and oral boards they will still not hire me due to a rough past. Like I said I have made a great change for my life. I have a family now and understand my past is my past. will this effect my future with my dream of making the force. If I should give up on my dream or continue please help with what I should do.

Officer Forestal,

I have passed an interview for a 911 dispatcher position and have a background check coming up which includes a written background packet and polygraph test. I am going to admit everything that I have done to the investigator, but I want to know if any of these things would disqualify me and if so, then would I permanently not be able to get a job at a law enforcement agency. I have smoked marijuana once since age 21 (three years ago), tried ecstasy once (1 year ago), have been with three prostitutes (last one three years ago), and have seen child porn (three years ago). I do genuinely regret all of these things.

I served 7 years in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout to include 3 deployments in Iraq, and 1.5 years with FL National Guard. I will E.T.S. soon and want to start a career with the Florida State Police, but have a possession of marijuana when I was 16, will this keep me from achieving my new career? I do have a secret security clearance.

I am a state certified EMT and due to a current injury I cannot work in the field though I do want to work helping those in the field. I would like more information about the job position and how I can go about applying for it. Thank you.

I'm wondering what academy your department uses for recruits? Also, do the SFPD recommend any pre-academy workouts?
