Police Oral Interview Questions and Answers
In order to get to the top of the police department eligibility list for future hire, you must post a top score on the police department oral interview. Police departments put a lot of emphasis on the interview. In fact, if you do poorly on the oral exam, you should re-apply at a different date because you won’t get hired.
Let’s look at the police oral interview and what the raters on the panel are looking for. First, the raters on the panel are looking for a recruit who can explain his thoughts in a clear and concise manner. This isn’t too difficult, but the biggest adjustment is responding to the scenario base questions. I call them the “what if this happens” type of questions.
The scenario based questions or the “what if” questions are designed to measured your judgment and reasoning capabilities during the course of your shift. Here are just a few questions and answers you may hear from the raters on the panel.
Police Interview Question#1: You are running radar when you spot a vehicle traveling 15 miles over the speed limit. You activate your light bar and initiate a traffic stop. When you approached the driver, you realize it’s your mother. What is your next course of action?
Police Interview Question#2: You are in your training phase when you hear your training officer call someone a racial slur? What is your next course of action since this officer has clearly violated the standard procedure in dealing with the public?
Police Oral Interview Answer: In response to question #1, I would definitely tell the panel that I would not issue my own mother a citation, but I would tell her to stop speeding and that she is putting me in a bad position. Don’t lie and tell the panel that you would give your mother a speeding ticket because that is a flat out lie, and you won’t do that in real life.
Police Oral Interview Answer: In response to question #2: I would inform the panel that I would discuss it with my training officer as I could have misunderstood him. But if it was one of those things that I am 100% certain that I heard right. I would summon my immediate supervisor and tell him what transpired.
Both of these questions are tough, but be completely honest in your response. I hope this article helped you in some way.
